J2ME : Java on the go

The number of mobile phones sold in 2006 surpassed one billion units for the first time in history.

Most of these phones can use programs written in Java 2 Mobile Edition (J2ME) - a potential market of millions of users for entertainment and informational content.

At Carlos Labs we know how to deliver user-friendly applications in J2ME for mobile phones, and we can produce a complete solution where your branded message is built into digital assests that can be distributed to your customer's mobile phones.

Concept case: Don't miss the bus

We developed a small J2ME application to prove a simple concept: a mobile phone is a great place to store a timetable. Even for a light user of public transport, nothing beats the ease of "using your phone" to find the next available bus.

Part of this simplicity is that by storing the time data in the application, there is no network access and no costs to the user. Not a single cent.

We have two examples for download:

  • Sydney Inner West bus routes 423, 426, 428 serving Canterbury, Dulwich Hill, Marrickville, Enmore, Newtown, Sydney Uni.
  • Sydney Eastern Suburbs bus routes 378 and 380 for Bondi, Bondi Junction, Paddington, Darlinghurst.

After the download, you must transfer the JAR file into your mobile phone. Please refer to your mobile's instructions on installing Java applications from your PC.

Follow this link for instructions on the use of the application.

  • For seamless, over-the-air distribution of your product we can also build a WAP gateway or a Bluetooth appliance. It's a great way to advertise and distribute your services and brands!

    Just ask us how!
