In the last few years, missiles and launch systems have become the new bargaining chip in international diplomacy.
Unfortunately, some can actually deliver nuclear weapons straight to your door.
You can also select a weapon and enter an address, if you want to see a map of the range from the new location.
Additional weapon ranges can be clicked on the map -very handy to see how far can North Korea or Iran threaten other countries.
Copy and paste the following to mashup the application into your own website or blog:

add Khalije Fars anti-ship ballistic missile
Can you add the Khalije Fars anti-ship ballistic missile?
Khalije Fars is now available
Sorry for the delay- holidays, Christmas, Kim Jong-Il... so much happening everywhere.
Now the missile is active and we can see Iran's plans to block the straits of Ormuz.

Great job
Great job on both the ground zero and the missle range. Just wish you could get this in the iPad app store. I would pay for this app just for the fun of it.
For iPad and Android
Hi, thanks for the feedback on "Missile Range".
After tinkering with releasing a native tab application -for iPads and Android, we decided that it is not worth the effort. The data tiles already live in the Web and from an architecture perspective, it introduces unwanted complexity.
But at the same time, we are aware about the tablet market.
We are working to release "Missile Range" as a "tablet friendly" application, just like we did with Ground Zero 3 - which you can run directly from your favourite pad by loading the URL:

Again, thanks for your comment,

Good Work!
Really well done Carlos! Keep up the good work.

Alok.
Thanks Alok
Many thanks - encouragement is always appreciated!

Accuracy of the Tool's LGM-30
Not sure if you are aware of this, but the approximate range of the LGM-30 is 13,000 kilometers, which would make it capable of hitting any target on the planet. Meaning that the rather restricted range the tool uses (more equivalent to an SLBM) is off by about 4000 kilometers. Also, the LGM-30 launch silos are located in the Dakotas. Vandenberg is a test launch facility only.
About the LGM-30
Hi,
We got the range for the LGM from an earlier test version - at that point we decided to settle on Vandenberg AFB due to the way Google maps works -the further north you get, the more distortion.
{to try this yourself, zoom out with the map and select a point far north - maybe like Minot AFB or something similar}
As a compromise, we are going to upgrade the LGM to 13 thousand kilometres.
thanks for letting us know,

Missiles
Here's a list of missiles that would be particularly useful:
Russian:
SS-18 (R-36)
SS-24 (RT-23) (a train based missile)
RS-24 (the newest Russian ICBM, TEL-based if I recall)
Chinese:
DS-41 (a long range, road-mobile, TEL-based ICBM)
US:
LGM-30 Minuteman III (Only US silo-based ICBM in service)
Trident II (SLBM, also used by the British Navy)
Adding bomber ranges (i.e. B-52, Tu-95, 22M, 160, etc) might be interesting as well.
The list
Thanks very much for that list - you have probably noticed that we have an array of historical and current missiles for some of the World's political hotspots - but at this time we should also include Britain and the US in our list.
Bombers are definitely a worthy addition to our list... we will look into that.
And many thanks for your comment!

Missle Ranges
They all appear to be calculated from the geographic center of the country of origin. That completely distorts ranges for missles not launched from the geographic country centers, such as mobile truck and submarine-based weapons. Without factoring realistic launch points into the map displays, the whole application is fairly useless.
useless application
hi there,
Two things come into mind with your comment;
(1) Missiles are not centered on any country. Obviously you have not used the application that much. You can click anywhere on the map to set new missile range areas.
(2) If a sub-based or TEL-based site was available in the public domain, then it would not be classified information, would it?
Personally, I would not be bothered with a physical location, since you have a "Search" box in the map window. Use it. It works wonders.

Good stuff
These are pretty awesome. Is there any chance of them being updated? Like different yields in the Ground Zero app. More missiles for more countries in the missile Range Map Tool. I would like to see missiles for Great Britain, Canada, Israel, Russia, United States.
ICBMs and Yields
We are continuously including new missiles in our application -you'll be surprised at what you will find in the future.
On the other hand, the yields for weapons in the "Ground Zero" apps are going to remain pretty much as they are at the moment - we decided not to complicate the UI for the application with too many weapons in similar categories - eventually we settled on a mix of "orders of magnitude and historical relevance".
thanks for visiting,

Good work!
Nice little app, Carlos! Well done again.
thanks !
it was long in the making - as usual, work got in the way - thanks for the encouragement
